Delphine Prange

Dear WSHS Alumni Association & Scholarship Committee,

I want to express my absolute gratitude for your decision to make me a recipient of the Patricia Feldman Noyes, Women in Science Scholarship. Thanks to this contribution, the financial stress of attending school out-of-state will be greatly reduced for me and my family, strengthening my confidence in my academic decisions and allowing me to focus on my degree. Despite being two years apart in age, my older sister and I will both be physically attending university for the first time this fall due to the pandemic. For my parents, who are generously willing to contribute to our educations, this scholarship lessens the burden of worrying about two tuition fees, two housing fees, and the numerous costs of college, all at once.

This has been a unique year, to say the least, but it has caused me to root myself in the importance of mental health. There is not one person or one field where mental health is not relevant and I wish to take support for this more accessible with my degree in Psychology. The funds you chose to award me will allow me the ultimate gift in my education: exploration. I look forward to discovering new methods of connecting with people and taking advantage of my own experiences, as well as my observations of others’, to guide this discovery with compassion. I hope in this way, and as a new WSHS Alumnus, I can work to pay forward your generosity to others.

Sincerely,
Delphine Prange

Dear WSHS Alumni Association,

It is truly an honor to be awarded a Ross & Viola Galbreath Scholarship for the 2021-2022 school year at the University of Washington.

I’m looking forward to starting classes and immersing myself into the vibrant community that is a part of the University of Washington. My plan is to pursue a major in the engineering field and to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible. I am most excited about the option to join a first–year Interest Group and the possibility of conducting undergraduate research. All these endeavors will be gratefully supported by your generous award.

Thank you for supporting my future and my goal to make a positive impact on the community.

Emma Auflick

Dear WSHS Alumni Association,

I am honored and grateful to receive the amount awarded as a scholarship for the use of my freshman year at Western Washington University. This financial aid will ensure my success and prosperity as I enter the world of higher education.

As a young woman heading into the Psychological line of pursuit, my future is predestined for years of hard work, studying and deliberation. With the tools I am lucky enough to have received, whether that be moral support from friends or relatives, or the financial relief awarded to me. I am assured a steady path on the road to achieving my professional goals. I plan to better the world and give back to the community with my newfound education.

As the grandchild of Indian/Wildcat Alumni Linda VanNess of the graduating class of 1957, my roots run deep in the school and greater West Seattle community. So, with gratitude and on behalf of myself and my family, I thank the West Seattle High School Alumni Association for my financial award.

Thank you,
Emma Auflick

Mary Carlsen

Dear West Seattle High School Alumni Association,

I would like to thank you all for awarding me with a scholarship. It has been a tough year and to know I have the support from the West Seattle High School Alumni means a lot. I am not the first Carlsen to be an Alumni from West Seattle High School. My grandfather and all four of his siblings attended West Seattle along with his parents. As you can imagine, West Seattle holds a very special place in our hearts. Without dedicated alumni, I would not be able to accept this award. It has been an honor attending West Seattle High School and I hope that I too can help support students in the future.

Thank you again,
Mary Carlsen

Natalie Hinkey

Dear WSHS Alumni Association,

Thank you for the generous scholarship, I really appreciate it. It will help me save money at the University of Washington next year so I can save up enough money to go on some archeology trips in the summer. The UW runs one that goes to Mallorca which I am interested in attending. I already know who I will be rooming with next year and I am excited to get to live on campus.

Thank you again for helping to make college more affordable for me and my family.
