Dear WSHS Alumni,
It is hard to explain the importance of the scholarship you awarded me. This money, graciously given to me not only allows me to attend the school of my choosing, but also gives me the opportunity to have money to spend on out-of-school activities. This includes participating in clubs, like intramural volleyball, as well as joining the Society of Automotive Engineers. You have opened many doors for me and created opportunities for me to engage in. I am very grateful.
Thank you,
Benjamin Broadstone

It is with deepest gratitude that I thank you for the aid in my future education. Never before has anyone been so generous towards me and my studies . It has been a long strenuous journey through high school. The time I have to enjoy what is left of my high school days is dwindling and though I am overjoyed at this prospect, I can’t help feel somber at the fact that the good times are drawing to an end. A feeling which I am sure most of you shared when it was your time to graduate. However with this generous gift from the alumni, it makes the future bright enough to help my thought process and attitude so that I will not dwell on what was but concentrate on what will be. I will focus on making even more memories which I can add to my collection and focus on being the best in my profession.
Opportunities like the one I have been given come around once in a lifetime. Studying at the University of Washington has always been a dream of mine ever since I was a child in grade school.
This scholarship is undoubtedly the biggest source of aid I have ever received . To be chosen for this has humbled me beyond belief. I assure all the alumni of West Seattle High School that this opportunity will not go to waste. I view the scholarship as a debt which 1am thrilled to have the opportunity to repay. It will be compensated through my hard work and dedication to my studies, future achievements in my field of study and my willingness to give back to the school when the time comes.
Thank you all for this. Now is a very tumultuous time in my life and the kindness which has been shown to me by the alumni shall never fade from my memory.
With utmost gratitude and sincerity,

Dear WSHS Alumni Association,
Thank you for the two very generous scholarships. The two scholarships I was awarded have really helped my family pay for my education at the University of Washington and I am really grateful for that. I am currently taking calculus, general chemistry, an engineering seminar and I took an Early Fall Start class on sustainable energy over the summer. Overall, my college experience has been great so far. In the future when I am established in my career, I will be sure to join the WSHS Alumni Association and donate money so future WSHS students receive scholarships like I did.
Thank you again for the generous scholarships.
Sincerely,

You have contributed in a meaningful way to my future and I hope one day I can help students in a similar way. Thank you again and I hope you are all doing well.

I would like to say a huge thank you for selecting me for the West Seattle High School Alumni Association Scholarship. I am very appreciative for the opportunity that has been awarded me and for the financial support toward my higher education.
With graduation right around the corner and in preparation of my first year of college, with studies in mechanical engineering, these funds are a very much needed resource. I fully intend to make good use of this scholarship and with the degree I am pursuing, I hope to make a huge contribution to improve everyday lives.
The West Seattle High School Alumni Association scholarship is a big step in helping me to achieve my academic goals. This generous award means the world to me and it only encourages me to give back by accomplishing my goals.

Dear WSHS Alumni Association,
After having completed my first year of college, I can say with even more sincerity, thank you. Before starting school! couldn’t comprehend just how much of a difference your support would make. Now I realize that my success this year would not have been possible without my generous scholarship from the WSHS Alumni.
Thanks to your sponsorship, I’ve had the luxury to focus solely on my studies this year. I haven’t had to worry about commuting from home, working long hours at a job, or where my next tuition payment will come from. I’ve found that obstacles like these are unexceptional for most students and I am so grateful to my West Seattle high school community for freeing me from them.
My first year at the UW has been challenging and strenuous, while also exciting and fun. Keeping in mind my goal of becoming an engineer, I’ve taken lots of math and science courses these past three quarters. They’re tough, but equally rewarding. I love getting to focus on the subjects that interest me and learning skills that I’ll apply to a job one day.
In addition to school I’ve taken up a few extra-curriculars that I really enjoy. For the past two quarters I’ve been a tutor at the Northgate Library for k-12students. To try and stay healthy I’ve been cooking and learning yoga through the UW Mindfulness club. My most exciting commitment this year, however, has been joining a research team at the university. The project combines historical research with computer science and will be continuing my involvement through the summer.
Once more, I want to thank the West Seattle High School Alumni Association and the Galbreath family for the generous scholarship I’ve received. You are the reason my college experience…and the college experience of so many other students is possible. My family and I will be forever grateful for your awesome support.
Sincerely,
August Carow

To the WSHS Alumni Association,
Through your generosity, I am even closer to accomplishing my goal of graduating from Pacific Lutheran
University next year! It’s hard to believe I’m already a senior! It feels like just one year ago, I was a senior in high school prepping for graduation!
Looking back at the past three years that I have attended PLU, it is unbelievable how much I have grown and how much I’ve accomplished. I have kept the friendships I made in high school as well as created new ones at college. I’ve been able to serve both my local community and communities abroad. I’ve been able to study literature, science, religion, and the French language, due to my liberal arts education. All of this could not have been possible without the Alumni Scholarship.
As I look toward my senior year and toward completing this chapter of my life, I have nothing but gratitude toward the Alumni Association.
Thank you,
Kirsten Kenny

Being able to write this letter for a second year, I understand much more of what is expected of me by accepting the Ross & Viola Galbreath Scholarship. College isn’t as easy as I’d wish it to be and it certainly isn’t as easy as I expected it to be at this time last year. I cannot divine the future, but I can promise to give all I can to my education over summer and the following months-with the full knowledge that a successful path is forged not by word, but by action. This first year has had its share of disappointing moments not only because of grades, but because I know I had the capabilities to do far better than I showed. I let myself down and I let the Association down. It will not happen again.
Despite this, all of you have given me a vote of confidence. If there was room for me to be more humbled after being initially granted this scholarship last year, there is certainly no more now; I thank all of you for continuing to see my potential. Starting today, I will continue my ascent of the collegiate mountain with the renewed hope and faith that you have given me and r look forward in the coming years to sharing the joy of summiting with all of you.
Sincerely,
Edward “Ned” Sander

Thank you so much for awarding me the Patricia Feldman Noyes Scholarship to help with my last year of college. I feel so lucky and grateful to have gone to a high school that supports my education.
I just finished my 3rd year of nursing school at Gonzaga University in Spokane. The nursing program is very challenging, but I’m so happy to know that I have people supporting me and encouraging me. This has been a blessing each year!
Thank you!

Dear WSHS Alumni Association,
Thank you so much for the continuation of my Ross and Viola Galbreath Scholarship. I am honestly more grateful than I can express in words. But in my best effort, to be able to focus on my studies and not have to fret about finances is the best gift ever to a college student. It means so much to me to know people believe in me enough to invest in my dream to be a chemical engineer. I promise to continue to work hard and do WSHS proud at the University of Washington.
West Seattle’s community of alum is truly amazing and one of a kind. My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done.
Forever grateful,
