2015 Scholarship Awardees Thank You’s
August Carrow
Dear WSHS Alumni Association,
Thank you so much for awarding me the Ross & Viola Galbreath Scholarship. I am ecstatic to receive such a generous award from an organization so important to my community.
This scholarship has brought immense relief to myself and my family, as we weren’t sure how we would support two full time college students. Your support has also alleviated the pressure to work while studying and taking classes…..which I know will make me a more successful student. Beyond academics, I’m also more excited and hopeful about going to college because I know I’ll be able to live in a dorm! I can’t wait to meet new friends and get involved in all kinds of activities and opportunities made possible by living on campus.
During my interview I really enjoyed meeting members of the Alumni Association. It was so nice to share my senior project topic, school activities and accomplishments with people who were genuinely interested in learning about my experiences. The encouragement and kindness I received at the interview alone felt like a reward for my hard work in school.
I am touched to know that there is an organization like the WSHS Alumni Association who care about the West Seattle community and ensure the futures of students like myself. Again, thank you.

Dear West Seattle High School Alumni Association,
Thank you so much for awarding me with a WSHSAA Scholarship. I am truly honored and grateful to represent an organization that is dedicated to improving the community and helping students pursue a higher education.
I’m very excited to be attending the University of Washington in September where I will be pursuing a degree in materials science engineering, which is the application of mathematics, chemistry and physics. Currently, I want to work at a company similar to Boeing as a materials science engineer to focus on how to make airplanes lighter, safer and more environmentally friendly through manipulating and creating new materials that compose an airplane. Thanks to you, I am one step closer to achieving my goals.
Thank you again for your kindness and support. You’ve inspired me to help others and give back to the community where I hope one day I will be able to help others the way you have helped me.

Dear Alumni Association,
I am extremely grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Alf & Ruth Larson Scholarship as well as a WSHSAA Scholarship. These contributions are incredibly appreciated, as they will allow me to pursue my dreams and attend the University of my choice.
This money will help me attend Pacific University where I will be playing basketball and pursuing a major in creative writing and a minor in Chinese. With these tools I hope to move to China and help educate the youth in rural cities. Also, I would like to become a travel journalist or a novelist.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” Because of the scholarships I have received from the Alumni Association, I will be able to receive an education which is the first step in chasing my dreams and changing the world for the better.
Thank you for this opportunity.

Dear West Seattle Alumni Association,
Let me start off by saying how grateful I am that I was chosen to receive a Patricia Feldman Noyes Scholarship. It absolutely means so much to me and it has lifted a huge burden from my shoulders as well as my parent’s shoulders. I will always remember what West Seattle High School has taught me and I will bring those lessons with me to New Orleans where hopefully I can continue to spread those lessons. West Seattle High School has taught me to appreciate people’s true colors, always be accepting and obviously….be as generous as you possibly can be…..
Thank you so, so much. I truly appreciate every cent.

Edward “Ned” Snaders
Dear Alumni,
Thank you so much for your incredible contribution toward my future goals. It means so much to me and my family and I have no doubt that it will help to further my education at the UW, especially in the realm of engineering and the sciences. I can only hope to achieve what you expect from me, but I trust that I will be able to make good on my potential.
If I may briefly turn to analogy, this money will have a hand in unlocki9ng several doors throughout my future that I would not have had the opportunity to pass through otherwise: the Door of Minimal Debt or the Door of Freedom from Fiduciary Worry, for instance. I am ever so grateful, for the Ross & Viola Galbreath Scholarship and to this school and community of which I am proud to have been a student.
Thank you again to the Alumni and all of those who have contributed to our school and to its students. It wouldn’t be the same without you.
