The West Seattle High School Alumni Association believes that education benefits the individual student as well as the community at large. Some of the Graduates go directly into the work place while others go on to continue their education at colleges and universities after leaving WSHS. Gifted minds and passion for higher learning by bright young people, who have benefited from their WSHS days, want to further their learning but face a financial roadblock.
Since 1958 the West Seattle Alumni Association has been providing scholarships to deserving students pursuing college degrees. These are WSHS graduating seniors who, without the help the scholarships provide, may not have been able to realize their dreams of a college education.
Over the years ours has become one of the largest scholarship funds in the United States. This has been made possible by generous donations from the WSHS alumni. Additionally, the Alumni Association scholarship fund has been the recipient of gifts, in the form of bequests or endowments, from a number of generous alums who remembered the Association in their wills. These donations allow the WSHS Alumni Association the ability to offer ongoing scholarships. This year, 2013, your Alumni Association has awarded a total of $135,000 to 17 worthy students to further their education.
It takes small and large donations to have a positive impact on aspiring students. One that can change the course of their lives and have a substantial and lasting impact. You can help by clicking on the “Donate” button or contact Linda Wells at linda@wshsalumniassociation.org.
